Battle of the Sexes

IT'S the eternal conflict.

And this month it moves on to the golf course.

The Battle of the Sexes Pro-Am sponsored by Castle Lite and Sarita will take place at the five star Legend Golf & Safari Resort at the heart of the Big 5 Entabeni Safari Conservancy, Limpopo, from 10th October 2010.

And finesse and grace will be thrown out of the window as the great game's female fans pit their wits and golfing talents against the opposite sex on the all-male designed championship course.

The Legend Golf & Safari Resort Signature Course is a world first. Designed by 18 of the planet's greatest male golfers, each hole has the vision of a great golfer at its heart.

A Par 72, which begins with South African designer Trevor Immelman, the list of signatures who have been honored to design a hole reads like a who's who of world golf: from Padraig Harrington and Justin Rose to Vijay Singh and Sergio Garcia.

Male and female professional golfers from across South Africa will compete for a prize fund of R35,000, playing off their respective tees on the course recently named Best Golf Course in Africa at the 2010 World Property Awards in association with Bloomberg.

The field will be limited to 42 teams, consisting of 20PGA professionals and 20 WPGA professionals. Each PGA and WPGA Professional will be tasked to bring an amateur golfer of the same sex with them, who will play together with the professional as a team in the betterball competition.

Accommodation during the two-day event will be in the resort's unique five-star suites. Designed and furnished to an exceptional standard, the rooms are the absolute epitome of luxurious bush living. The event will be catered for at the unique Brul Bar, a traditional African food and beverage outlet offering golfers and guests the perfect place to relax at the end of an exhilarating day in the field, as well as the Signature Course Clubhouse – the venue for the prize-giving lunch.

Professionals enter at no cost and compete for a prize fund of R30,000 in the individual competition, as well as R5000 for the team competition. The professional package involves sharing with their amateur and includes welcome drinks, a two-night stay in luxury five-star accommodation, halfway house, dinners, plus two rounds of competition golf and cart. The exclusive amateur entry rate is R3,500, including the above package.

With the PGA men emerging triumphant in the team event last year and the WPGA taking first place in the individual professional competition, the competition is on to see which gender will be crowned victorious this year.
