"It’s great to be able to build a par 5 as the conclusion of this great golf course.
I am sure people will find this an exciting hole and as we know anything can happen on a Par 5 at the end of any tournament.
So the course reaches its climax with a downhill drive which needs to avoid the bunkers to the left of the fairway.
If you can do that you are set up to make the choice of whether or not to take on the water in front of the green or lay up. There’s plenty of space for laying up but the target does narrow towards the green complex. A grassy slope runs from the far side of the lake to the green and I decided to keep the grass here just long enough to prevent a watery end to many a round. If you clear the water – well done – you shouldn’t have to worry about rolling back in."
