Riso Africa Donation
A JAPANESE business has thrown its support behind the conservation work at Africa's most exciting golf and safari resort with a generous R5000 donation.
Film company Riso Africa previously presented Legend Golf & Safari Resort's rare breed wildlife centre with a solar-powered surveillance camera. The big cat spy cam was fitted into the roof of a birthing den on one of the centre's innovative “lion islands” to allow animal experts to monitor the recent birth of three tawny cubs to first-time Mum Precious, the 27-month-old lioness.
However, the Japanese company has been so impressed with the work being carried out at Legend Wildlife & Cultural Centre – an off-shoot of the award-winning leisure venue in Limpopo - that it decided to offer ongoing support and ensure the Centre's newest residents get the best start in life.
During its visit to the Centre, the company revealed it will name one of the cubs Riso-chan, meaning “Ideal baby” in Japanese. Riso Africa's sales and marketing manager Sonia Anderson said: “It's important that we conserve our wildlife in South Africa.
“When we first came to Legend Golf & Safari Resort we were very surprised to see that the Centre doesn't have corporate sponsorship for its work, as it's such a worthwhile cause.
“Companies always look to make donations to orphanages and underprivileged schools but we must always remember to support those projects that conserve nature.
“We really admire the work being carried out here. The Centre takes great care of its lions; it gives them space with its lion islands and the opportunity to be lions.
“Today we are donating R5000 but our support for the Centre is going to be on-going. It's important they are able to provide the cubs with what they need now and in the future.”
Animal expert Yolande van der Merwe of Legend Wildlife & Cultural Centre said: “We are extremely grateful to Riso Africa for all their support.
“As a team we have the best interests of our animals at heart and this kind donation will help us achieve our aims.”
