The Waterberg is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled parts of Africa. With Hanglip Mountain as its eastern starting point the mountain range runs north west and is a haven for myriad species of wildlife.
The varied and beautiful habitats of the Waterberg are home to an amazing mix of creatures, trees, ancient cycads and of course The Big 5.
These ancient mountains are the oldest red oxidized sandstone range in the world. Several species are only found here…Most famously the Marais Cycad plant but also the Waterberg girdled lizard and the Waterberg flat lizard. Botanically it is an incredible area with more than 200 species of trees in the Entabeni Safari Conservancy alone.
This array of tree life gives the animal population the opportunity to be just as diverse. There are 19 species of antelope alone. All of the large predators and herbivores can be found in the region including the Big 5. These awesome creatures certainly add great value to any safari in South Africa, and when combined with animals such as the cheetah, zebra and giraffe, make for spectacular game viewing.
